Ford of Britain started in 1909 with the first assembly plant in Manchester producing Model T’s from 1911. It was the first Ford factory outside of North America. In 1923 the company decided on a move to Dagenham, giving them access to a deep water port and creating Europe’s largest car factory. Production continued later at other plants including Halewood, Basildon, Swansea and Cork. Ford of Europe was created in 1967 with Ford of Britain remaining an independent company. Production of vehicles in the UK ceased in 2013. (Please see Ford of Europe for models from 1967 onwards.)
