Hindustan Motors Limited (HML) was founded in 1942, building its first car in 1946.  The company is best known for its Ambassador model which was based on the 1956 Morris Oxford Series III and was manufactured until 2014.  HML has participated in joint ventures with other companies such as General Motors, Isuzu and Mitsubishi.  Its headquarters are in Kolkata.
