Hongqi – which means “Red Flag” in Chinese – began in 1958 producing a V-8 powered prestige limousine, the CA 721E, which was used mostly by high-ranking officials.  Made in small numbers by the First Auto Works, car production continued until 1981 and was then revived in the 1990’s.  In 2013, the luxury L 5 was introduced with an asking price of £580,000.
