In 1920 in Strasbourg, Emile Mathis launched the first car to bear his name.  His company made a great variety of both cars and commercial vehicles over decades.  In 1935 his factory manufactured Fords which were sold under the name Matford.  After WW II, the company closed in 1950 and the factory was sold to Citroën.
