Skoda is named after Czechoslovakian engineer Emil Skoda (1839-1900), with the first cars being built in 1925 after merging with Laurin & Klement. A wide range of vehicles was produced until WW II, with the company being nationalised in 1945. In the 1990’s, Skoda Auto became a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, with their cars now selling in over 100 countries worldwide.
