Founded by the Tata family, Indian company Tata Motors Ltd. began in 1945, initially building vehicles in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz.  The first truly Indian passenger car, the Indica, was constructed in 1998 and the world’s cheapest car, the Nano, was launched in 2008.  Based in Mumbai the company manufactures today a wide range of cars, trucks, vans, buses and military vehicles.
