
Toyota was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1933 as a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. The first car was built in 1935, the A1 with the model AA following in 1936. After WW II, trucks were manufactured at first before car construction began with the name Toyota. Annual production increased rapidly reaching over a million by 1970. Today, the company is the largest automobile manufacturer in the world and a leader in sales of hybrid electric vehicles.
