ZAZ stands for Zaporozhkji Avtomobilnji Zavod and is a Ukrainian company that began building cars in 1960 when it was part of the Soviet Union.  The original company had been founded in 1923 to make agricultural machinery.  In 1998, ZAZ became part of a joint venture with Daewoo.
